A 34-year-old man has been charged with multiple family violence offences following his arrest in Calwell last night after he had barricaded himself in a toilet cubicle at a shopping centre.
About 6.40pm yesterday, Tuesday 30 November, police received information that a stolen motor vehicle was driving erratically in the Tuggeranong area.
The vehicle was located by police on a number of occasions, however it failed to stop for police and due to the manner of driving it could not be intercepted.
At about 8.30pm, police located a man barricaded within a toilet cubicle at the rear of the Calwell shops. He was engaged by specialist negotiators and surrendered at approximately 11.30pm.
He has been charged with offences including choking, forcible confinement, assault, possession of a knife, and being equipped for theft.
He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today.
Police are still searching for a stolen blue 2019 VW Amarok 4WD utility (ACT registration YNI55C) associated with this incident.
Anyone with information about the vehicle’s whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote 6974563. Information can be provided anonymously.
