A 48-year-old man has died on the NSW South Coast after he was pulled from the ocean at Surf Beach this afternoon.
NSW Police say about 1pm today, emergency services were called to Surf Beach in Bateman’s Bay following reports a man and a child were missing in the water.
Following a search, the man and a nine-year-old girl were pulled from the ocean by Surf Lifesaving NSW near Surf Beach.
The man is reportedly from Canberra but is yet to be formally identified by police. There are reports he entered the water when his nine-year-old daughter got into trouble in a rip.
NSW Ambulance paramedics performed CPR on the man, however he died at the scene, NSW Police say.
The girl was taken to Batemans Bay Hospital in a stable condition.
Surf Beach is a popular spot for swimming and surfing for both tourists and locals. NSW South Coast beaches are not patrolled during winter.
