Man faces court over Belconnen stabbing attack

A 43-year-old man was due to face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged over a stabbing attack in Belconnen yesterday, Sunday 21 June.

ACT Policing allege the man engaged in a verbal argument about 9.35am with a woman, believed to be a neighbour, in the communal car park of a town house complex on Chandler Street.

Police further allege that during this argument, the man has produced a 15cm knife and stabbed the woman in the hand, before being chased away by a witness.

The woman was treated at the scene by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics before being transferred to hospital.

Police attended a short time later, and with the assistance of witnesses, identified the alleged offender and placed him under arrest.

The man was due to face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning, charged with intentionally wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and possessing an offensive weapon.
