A man has been fatally shot in the chest at Newcastle today.
Emergency services were called to a unit on Darby Street, at Cooks Hill, at 12.45pm today, Thursday 22 July, following reports of shots being fired.
NSW Police found a man inside the unit with a gunshot wound to the chest.
He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene.
The man is yet to be formally identified, police say.
An investigation has been launched by detectives from Newcastle City Police District into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
