Man in 90s dies with COVID in ACT, 65 in hospital

A man in his 90s has died with COVID-19 in the ACT and there are 65 patients in hospital, one of whom is in intensive care, as the Territory recorded 449 new cases in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

The patient in ICU is on ventilation.

Of the new cases, 274 were confirmed via PCR testing and 175 through the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).

There are 2,954 active cases in the ACT (1,772 PCR and 1,182 RAT).

The ACT has recorded a total of 37,771 positive cases since testing began, and the death rate among COVID cases in the Territory sits at 0.071 per cent. This compares with a 0.227 per cent death rate among positive Influenza cases in Australia in 2019 (486 deaths from 214,377 cases), according to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

More than half (53.2 per cent) of ACT residents aged 18 and over have received a booster shot, while ACT Health reports 98.6 per cent of residents aged 12 and over are fully vaccinated with two shots.

More than seven in 10 (71.9 per cent) ACT children aged five to 11 years have received one dose.
