Man to face court for threat to kill, forcible confinement

A 35-year-old Scullin man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning, Wednesday 3 February, on a number of serious charges, including threat to kill and forcible confinement of a pregnant 20-year-old woman.

The man will face a total of 12 charges related to offences police allege he committed while he was on bail and involving the pregnant woman.

About 5am on Monday 25 January, police allege the man assaulted the woman at a residence in Macgregor.

About 10.30am on Sunday 31 January, police received a report the offender was allegedly holding the woman against her will at the Macgregor residence. Police were also advised that the offender had assaulted and threatened to kill the woman a number of times.

Police attended the location and spoke with a number of people present. With the safety of the victim paramount, police helped the woman to a safe location.

Police obtained statements from a number of people, which alleged further offences by the man.

An arrest warrant for the man was sworn on Monday 1 February, and following an investigative search, he was arrested at a residence in Melba about 2.45pm yesterday, Tuesday 2 February.

He will face court this morning charged with three counts of reckless threat to kill person, three counts of assault ABH on a pregnant woman, two counts of forcible confinement, and single counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentionally wound, possess offensive weapon with intent, and minor theft.

Police will oppose bail.
