Canberra Agent Profile: Justin Taylor and Dimi Romero from MARQ Property

Not only are they at the top of the list of Canberra’s finest real estate agents, MARQ’s Justin Taylor and Dimi Romero are more than just your average salespeople – they genuinely care about their clients. With a combined 29 years’ experience in Canberra real estate, Justin and Dimi are undoubtedly the real deal.

Justin and Dimi spoke with Canberra Daily to talk about why they love working in real estate, how they manage to have such a successful working relationship, and what any potential client can expect from them as their agents.

What would you like Canberrans to know about you?

Justin: “I’ve lived in Canberra for over 40 years and went to school at Cook Primary, Evatt Primary and St Edmunds College. I’ve been in real estate for 19 years now, and I’ve met an incredible amount of great people in this industry, as well as lifelong friends.

“I always wanted to be a professional golfer, and my stepfather (Kel Hellier) owned Hellier’s Golf Centre where I worked for many years, and that’s where my love of customer service began. People who know me, know I’m pretty genuine.”

Dimi: “I grew up in Canberra and I have always worked in customer service-based roles, however real estate is the one industry I always kept coming back to. I have three beautiful children and they are my reason why: Esperanza, 17, Angelina, 15, and Jaspar, 8. I am also a step-mum to Liam, 8, and Sierra, 13, so you could say we are a little Brady Bunch family. The best thing I like about real estate is the fast pace – I don’t like being bored and I love getting to meet so many different people all the time.

“I started from the bottom and worked hard to get where I am today. Justin deserves a lot of credit for this; he took me under his wing all those years ago and since that day, I have learnt so much as a (person and) real estate agent. He showed tremendous belief in me, which I am immensely grateful for.”

Why did you decide to enter real estate?

Dimi: “I actually started a real estate traineeship in Year 11. School just wasn’t for me, and I just knew real estate was all I wanted to do … I had such a passion for it even back then.

“I started at Elders and worked my way up from an office all-rounder to sales coordinator, and then Justin and McGrath gave me the opportunity and security I needed to take the leap into sales. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made, both personally and professionally.”

Justin: “It was in 2003 when I made the decision to change careers from playing and teaching golf and jump into real estate. However, I was always interested in it– three of my mates from school all have really successful careers in real estate.

“I’ve always loved sales, and I’m really passionate about it. Providing customer service has always come naturally to me and it’s really rewarding to see your hard work pay off in the end results and making my clients happy.

“I have also been fortunate to have, right from the start of my real estate career, my wife Laura who has been super supportive and understanding of the long hours, and 7 days a week work.”

What can prospective clients expect from you as their agents?

Justin: “I’m a very straight shooter and you can expect 110 per cent dedication and commitment to getting the best possible result. You won’t ever get any pressure from us to accept offers you’re not happy with, and you can expect to be treated like you’re my best friend or family member.”

Dimi: “Both Justin and I are big believers in treating our clients in the best way we possibly can. You can expect transparent and reliable feedback and advice, and we treat everyone like they’re a family member. Whether you’re a buyer or you’re selling with us, we will give it our all.”

How do you have such a great working relationship with each other?

Dimi: “The main reason I wanted to work with Justin was because he just has such a good reputation. Everyone I’ve ever met has never said a bad thing about him! We both have similar work ethics, have similar values, and treat our clients in the same way.

“We’ve been working together since 2017, and I will work with him until he retires … I have no desire to break away. There is still so much I have to learn from him.”

Justin: “We work very well together, and it’s rare and hard to find a sales partner as great as Dimi!

“I just want to also add, that if any new agents or people who are looking to get into real estate want to have a chat to receive some advice or guidance, please reach out! I’m more than happy to help.”
