Beer and burritos for vaccinated tradies

Master Builders ACT (MBA) hosted a mass vaccination drive-through clinic over the weekend with over 100 tradies lining up for an AstraZeneca jab.

MBA CEO Michael Hopkins said he was really pleased with the number of construction workers who did their bit for the industry by turning up to the clinic. Due its success, Master Builders is looking at running another hub for tradies in the future.

“This is particularly important with the construction industry now operating again and, wherever possible, we want to avoid further disruptions so the more people who are vaccinated, as soon as they can, the better,” Mr Hopkins said.

“It was encouraging to see the range of people making the commitment to get their jab, from young apprentices right through to contractors setting an example for their staff, and older people getting their second jab.”

The workers began lining up from 7.30am and by the time the medical team was ready to begin operations at 9am, the carpark was already packed to the brim.

Fyshwick Business Association president Rob Evans said they’ve found giving people flexible options around receiving their vaccine is really worthwhile.

“There was a steady stream of traffic all day and by 3pm we had another 140 Canberrans vaccinated which is a great result, especially for those who might not have had their jab any other way,” Mr Evans said.

“Overwhelmingly, people were in good spirits and happy to be there and we thank them for their patience as we worked through all the necessary details to ensure their jab was recorded properly for their digital immunisation certificate.”

Mr Hopkins said the feedback has been tremendously positive and he thanked the MBA’s industry partner CBUS who came on board to support the event.

As a bonus, a can of beer and a Guzman y Gomez burrito voucher was provided to every tradie who received their vaccination on the day.
