Local product Matt Frawley has penned a one-year contract extension with the Canberra Raiders as the club continues its search for a permanent halfback.
Frawley impressed in his five appearances in 2021, playing a combination of five-eighth and halfback with the Raiders winning three of the four matches he started.
The 26-year-old largely battled with veteran Sam Williams for the halfback spot vacated by George Williams and has now been rewarded with a new deal.
Sam Williams remains off-contract heading into 2022.
However, the Raiders likely don’t see Frawley as the solution to their halfback issues at this point, with the club recently linked to the Gold Coast Titans’ Jamal Fogarty.
Canberra seemed keen to bring the 27-year-old to the club for next year but those hopes were dealt a large blow yesterday with the Titans ruling out an early release for their skipper.
Journalist Brent Read suggested the Raiders could send hooker Josh Hodgson to the Titans as a way to get Fogarty in the lime green, but that would seem unlikely at this stage.
Canberra have also been linked to Chanel Harris-Tevita who has one year remaining on his deal at the Warriors.
