McGregor man caught going 168km/h on Monaro Highway

A 30-year-old Macgregor man has had his licence suspended after dash-cam footage captured him driving more than 75km/h above the posted speed limit on the Monaro Highway.

About 5.45am on Wednesday, 13 September, a member of the public was driving southbound on the Monaro Highway when they were overtaken at speed by a silver Holden Commodore sedan.

The Holden was captured on dash-cam, with this footage later provided to police.

ACT Policing’s Major Crash Team conducted a time-over-distance calculation from the footage, which found the speed of the Holden was no less than 168km/h in the 90km/h zone.

The driver was subsequently issued with a Traffic Infringement Notice for speeding more than 45km/h over the speed limit, which carries a penalty of $1,841 and six demerit points.

The driver was also issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice, suspending his right to drive in the ACT for three months.

Police would like to remind drivers that they can be caught speeding at any time irrespective of whether police are around.

Drivers who capture footage of other road users displaying dangerous driving are also encouraged to provide this footage to police.
