Meraki takes the runway

A new fashion event will take the runway in Canberra, created by local lovers of fashion Bianca Pavlic, the creative director and designer at Bianca Pavlic the Label, and Maryanne Irhia.

Meraki โ€“ meaning to โ€œdo something with love, creativity and soulโ€ โ€“ will take place on Sunday 24 March, and will showcase the work of local designers.

โ€œWe want to achieve a local, diverse and inclusive environment which allows local businesses to come together and create something fresh and exciting. Itโ€™s also a celebration of the human figure in every shape and size,โ€ Maryanne says.

Meraki will see collaboration between local businesses, turning the event into an โ€œexperienceโ€. Three local designers will have their work on show: Venus Blooms, Gerhardus Harmannus and Claudia the Label, as well as Biancaโ€™s Bianca Pavlic the Label.

โ€œ[Guests] will be able to enjoy food, drink, entertainment and interactive spaces. There will be three designers, with Biancaโ€™s designs closing the show,โ€ Maryanne says.

โ€œThe Fitters Workshop will be transformed into a glamorous muted palette โ€“ making for an enchanted afternoon.โ€

Maryanne says the support of the Canberra community has been โ€œoverwhelmingly amazingโ€.

โ€œWe [Bianca and I] were talking about the growth of Biancaโ€™s label and [I] was talking about fashion events and we both paused and looked at each other. Straight away we knew Meraki had to happen.

โ€œSo we created an Instagram, locked in the venue and then did callouts, then photoshoots, then videos, then a website and everything else just fell into place. We have had so much support with people wanting to be involved in every way,โ€ Maryanne says.

โ€œWeโ€™re both so young but weโ€™re hardworking, passionate and canโ€™t wait to bring our vision to life!โ€

Meraki will take place on Sunday 24 March 2pm at the Fitters Workshop, Kingston. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit merakicbr.com
