Molonglo Valley Library co-design begins

The ACT Government intends to establish the Molonglo Valley Library in the heart of the future Molonglo Valley Group Centre, to service the fastest-growing region of Canberra. But what should it look like?

The government states that the library will be an important resource for both Molonglo Valley residents and the wider Canberra community. It will offer access to library collections, areas for community use, and a space for community services.

The public can share their ideas until early May. The community can share photos, videos, and ideas of their ideal future library on an online vision board; attend a community pop-up; or check out the interactive display board in their local library.

Primary school-aged children can submit their creative ideas for the library via the online kids’ corner.

Feedback from the community will be used to develop three concept designs for the library. The community can then provide feedback on their preferred concept design later this year.

“By involving the Canberra community from the very beginning of the design process, we will ensure the future Molonglo Valley Library and community hub best meet the diverse needs of our growing community,” Tara Cheyne, ACT Minister for City Services, said.

“I encourage everyone in our community to take advantage of this opportunity to help shape the look and feel of an important future community facility from the outset of the design process. Regardless of whether you are a library member or not, or Molonglo Valley resident or not, we would love to hear from you. If you are not a member, we would love to hear from you about what might make you consider joining and using the future facilities.”

The community has already decided that making the library accessible, working together, supporting lifelong learning, and providing integrated services are the main goals for the new library. They also want to keep finding ways for people to help design future services together.
