Monster’s takeaway, in-room offerings a new way to experience a Canberra classic

As local businesses continue to adapt to a new life under COVID-19, one of Canberra’s signature foodie haunts – Monster Kitchen and Bar – is doing the same.

Enter DELI by Monster, an innovation to keep business going through the pandemic at Ovolo Nishi’s iconic Monster Kitchen and Bar in New Acton.

“A traditional and plant-based deli and grocery awaits at DELI by Monster, a select menu of the Monster favourites with market fresh produce to take home as ready-made meals or home assembly,” says Ovolo Hotels’ group food and beverage director, Vince Lombino.

“In addition to new and familiar, fresh range of offerings, Canberra has access to Monster’s cellar door, with our curated wine lists available by the bottle.”

Vince says DELI by Monster, much like Monster Kitchen and Bar, is sustainably focused, as a different way to immerse yourself in the Monster dining experience.

He says the reaction to their latest offering has been “extremely positive”, as the team try to navigate these uncertain times in what is “a very congested space of late”.

In addition to the DELI by Monster takeaway offering, there is also the option for a private dining and staycation experience, with dinner from Monster and a stay in one of the Ovolo Nishi hotel rooms.

“Restaurant In Room offers a private dining sanctuary. For those who need a date night out of the house, a change of scenery and wanderlust seekers who are seeking a vacation via staycation, Monster is offering a set menu in Ovolo Nishi’s hotel rooms, for up to two guests,” says Vince.

One of the mains on Monster’s Restaurant In Room menu last week: Wagyu short rib with jalapeno, pickled king brown mushroom, onion medley and jus.

“We’re bringing a new meaning to private dining.”

And the whole experience is done in keeping with current health regulations and restrictions surrounding COVID-19 – served up with generous dollops of Monster’s signature flair and charm.

Vince says while the hospitality and restaurant industry is facing an uncertain future, the Monster and Ovolo teams will be listening to their customers and making changes as needed.

“We’re listening to our customers’ needs and requests and will constantly evolve the DELI by Monster offering,” he says.

“We’re just here to keep your, and our, love for great food and drink alive.”

Restaurant In Room starts from $199 per couple for the three-course option; add-ons include matching beverages and overnight stay at extra cost.
