Mums, Bubs & Beyond

Whether you’re expecting your first baby or your youngest is at school, check out the advertisers in this special feature to discover the services and products available locally for parents and children.

Australian Breastfeeding Association supports local mums

As Australia’s peak authority on breastfeeding, the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) supports, educates and advocates for a breastfeeding inclusive society.

The Canberra ABA group is a source of friendship, resources and fun for many women. ABA offers mother-to-mother support, antenatal education, social contact, discussion meetings and breast pump hire.

The group covers the ACT and surrounding NSW areas, including Queanbeyan, Yass, Bungendore, Goulburn and Braidwood, and welcomes local mums and their families.

ABA operates the free National Breastfeeding Helpline 1800 MUM 2 MUM (1800 686 268) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, where volunteer breastfeeding counsellors answer calls in their own homes.  Evidence-based information about breastfeeding is also available via LiveChat at breastfeeding.asn.au.

ABA members have free access to the premium content on the mum2mum app and discounted rates for breast pump hire.

To find out more, email [email protected] or follow @ABAACTSNSW on Facebook.

Childbirth education aiming to ‘Transform Parenting’

Tracey Anderson Askew has been helping Canberra’s pregnant women get excited about giving birth for 16 years. In that time, Tracey has worked with over 3,000 couples preparing them for birth and transforming their fear into more useful feelings like excitement, confidence and calmness.

Tracey brought a program called calmbirth to Canberra in 2006. Since then, her business has evolved into an Education Centre called Transform Parenting, which encapsulates mind/body sciences in relation to birth and parenting through a variety of programs. These include Transform Your Birth and Thriving as a new parent, Parent Coaching and Therapy, a Parent Village membership, and courses for health professionals.

One of the biggest themes of feedback Tracey gets from health professionals and new mothers alike is “this just makes sense.” The teachings are based on how the body functions and what a labouring mother can do to optimise that response.

To find out more, email [email protected].au or call Tracey on 0414 267 791.
