National Multicultural Festival to return to Canberra in 2023

It’s almost time to break out the stretchy pants, The National Multicultural Festival will be making its return to the Capital next year and its set to be bigger than ever.

It has been announced today the iconic cultural smorgasbord will return after two long years to celebrate its 25th anniversary on 17-19 February 2023.

For three glorious days, locals and visitors to the region will be able to immerse themselves in the rich and plentiful cultures that make up our great nation. Be a part of cultures from countries right across the world; taste culinary delights, experience the culture, history, and heritage through lively performances and colourful art works.

If the return of one of our most loved festivals wasn’t good news enough, Minister for Multicultural Affairs Tara Cheyne has also announced that the festivals grant funding will be doubled for the coming year, increasing the funds available from $90,000 to 180,000 in hopes of ensuring a wider range of cultures are able to be represented at the event.

“This will allow for even greater participation from the community as stallholders and performers. We will be particularly encouraging applications from new and emerging communities as the festival is such a great way to share their culture” Cheyne said.

More cultures being included not only means more delicious snacks and engaging performances, but it also means that more space is required. The festivals parameters have been expanded to include Glebe Park, a tasty treat under the shade of a tree in the park sounds like the perfect way to spend a summer afternoon.

To support groups and organisation who wish to be included in the festivities, the 2023 National Multicultural Festival Grants Program will open for applications on Monday 25 July.
