New COVID-19 cases detected in Batemans Bay and Cooma

Southern New South Wales has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases with Batemans Bay and Cooma both recording one new positive case.

NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has announced a list of COVID venues of concern in the Southern NSW Local Health District with 14 total sites.

There are ten in Goulburn, two in Yass and two in Cooma with none in Batemans Bay and the Queanbeyan region so far.

More venues of concern may be announces as further information comes to hand.

The state member for Bega Andrew Constance said earlier today that the virus is clearly spreading in the Southern NSW Local Health District.

“There is no doubt this is spreading to our region which is bad news for us all,” he said.

He encouraged anyone with symptoms to get tested and for the community to continue booking vaccinations.

“It’s vitally important we all look for the signs, any sign of a cold or fever please get tested,” he said.

“At the same time, please everybody get vaccinated.

“We are in lockdown for a reason so please minimise your travel, please be vigilant and get tested, get vaccinated and wait for public health announcements to follow.”

Mr Constance also said the new case may extend the lockdown which was scheduled to lift on Friday 10 September.

“This is going to … change our ability to lift lockdown this Friday as we had all hoped,” he said.

“Whether this results in a harsher style lockdown is yet to be determined but I won’t be surprised if we do start to see a list of exposure venues put out by the public health unit.”

The announcement marks the first case detected in Batemans Bay for more than a year.

Deputy NSW Premier John Barilaro announced the news along with three new cases in the Queanbeyan and Googong area and two in Goulburn, all regions directly surrounding the ACT.
