The number of new COVID-19 cases in the ACT has risen sharply to 30 overnight, up from 15 the day before.
Of the 30 new cases, 19 have been linked and the remaining 11 are still under investigation.
Fifteen of the linked cases are household contacts.
Only 12 were in quarantine for their entire infectious period and at least 14 spent part of their infectious period in the community with the remaining four under investigation.
Eight people are currently in hospital with or due to COVID-19 with one in intensive care requiring ventilation.
The youngest patient in hospital is in their 30s and the oldest in their 70s.
Four of the patients are unvaccinated, one has received one dose, two are fully vaccinated and one’s vaccination status is unknown.
“Today is not the first time that we have seen new daily case numbers in the 30s,” ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr told reporters.
“And it is too early to know if this is a one-off. But it is clear that this is not a good number.”
A total of 4,301 vehicles were stopped at ACT/NSW border, with 12 being turned around.
Barr labelled significant breaches of public health restrictions reported at residential construction sites “unforgivable”.
“It’s simply not good enough. And the sites have been shut down,” he said.
In a positive sign, 26 more people have fully recovered from the virus in Canberra, taking the total number of recovered cases to 341.
There are 245 active cases in the ACT.
