The ACT Government will upgrade Tuggeranong foreshore and Casey recreation park next year.
“This is part of our biggest, ever program to improve suburban infrastructure across our city, with upgrades to local shops and group centres, playgrounds, dog parks and other community facilities,” said Chris Steel, Minister for Transport and City Services.
Mr Steel released draft designs for improvements to Lake Tuggeranong Foreshore so the public can provide input, before the third stage of upgrades at the Tuggeranong Town Centre proceeds.
The Tuggeranong Town Park playground will have new equipment, and more accessible play and picnic spots. Features include nature play, a climber rope, and a balance challenge.
The existing Tuggeranong Town Park toilet will be replaced with new, accessible facilities.
The foreshore path network will be more accessible and safer. The path will be widened around sharp corners near the boardwalk, obstacles will be removed, and new street furniture will be provided so people can sit and rest.
Way-finding around the foreshore will be improved (including directions to public toilets near Reed Street). A new shared path will be built with cycle and pedestrian symbols.
On the eastern side of the lake, at least another 70 trees will planted along the existing shared path and in the foreshore open space this spring and next autumn.
The Tuggeranong Skate Park will be resurfaced damaged ramp surfaces replaced in the first half of 2023.
These designs, including artist impressions, are now available to view and provide feedback on the YourSay project page. Feedback closes Sunday 9 October.
Following community feedback on the draft designs, the government has finalised plans for the new community recreation park at Casey. These include:
- A multi-purpose court, including basketball and other sports;
- All-abilities play equipment, nature play, and a flying fox to cater to a broad range of ages and abilities;
- Toilet facilities, shade structures, a barbecue, and picnic tables to support longer visits to the park;
- A grassed amphitheatre and irrigated green open space for general recreation; and
- Spaces set aside for future community-use such as a community garden and micro-forest.

In the coming weeks, the government will announce more consultations for planned upgrades to dog parks in Franklin and Lanyon, and to playgrounds in Lyons and Kaleen.
