Link Airways will carry four return flights from Canberra to Newcastle starting next month, with a plan to expand to as many as 11 flights during 2021.
It is the Australian airline’s second announced route out of the ACT, after confirming a Canberra to Hobart route last month, which is set to take off in December.
Link Airways CEO Andrew Major said he was pleased to provide the service out of Canberra, which would join Fly Pelican, which already offers the route four times per week.
“As a Canberra-owned company, the airline is very proud to be able to offer these new services which will greatly enhance connectivity between Canberra and Newcastle,” he said.
“The airline had received numerous approaches from parties that travel regularly between Canberra and Newcastle seeking additional capacity and a larger range of fares on the route.
“The Saab 340B Plus aircraft with full inflight cabin service will significantly enhance the offering on this route.”

The first flight is set to take off on Friday 20 November, with the same-day return services running on Mondays and Fridays.
The route’s flight time is 60 minutes, with departure and arrival times scheduled to allow for same-day business trips, or a weekend stay.
Newcastle Airport CEO, Dr Peter Cook, said the flight announcement was welcomed by the domestic aviation industry and the Newcastle economy.
“At a time when we can see some hope on the horizon for the aviation industry, this is great news for both regions,” he said.
“We look forward to working with Link Airways and all of our partner airlines to re-build connections between our region and the rest of the country in the coming weeks and months.”
Prices start from $149 one way and are available for purchase now. Link Airways are planning to expand their service to 11 return flights weekly by February next year.
