Applications are now open for the 2021–22 ACT Heritage Grants Program; $387,000 is available to conserve and promote the Territory’s history.
Rebecca Vassarotti, Minister for Heritage, encouraged Canberrans to apply if they had projects that help to understand, celebrate and promote heritage places and objects, in particular First Nations (Indigenous) heritage, through education, oral histories, tourism, interpretation, or events.
The ACT Heritage Grants Program is an annual funding program administered by the ACT Government.
“This is such an important program for the region, and supports our community to tell rich stories of Canberra,” Ms Vassarotti said.
“Canberrans have a diverse range of local heritage at their doorstep, ranging from Aboriginal artefacts and places to early European settlement and modern architecture.”
The 2020–21 round funded 20 projects across Canberra, including: short films; signage networks; augmented reality for Tidbinbilla’s European history; a self-guided tour of Canberra’s railway remnants; conserving murals at Free Serbian Orthodox Church St George and stained-glass windows at St John’s Anglican Church; and a heritage library at Red Hill Primary School.
