New Harry Hartog bookshop opens at South.Point Tuggeranong

With a section dedicated to Australian authors, Harry Hartog has started another new chapter with the official opening of their newest bookshop for the Canberra region at South.Point Shopping Centre in Tuggeranong today.

The exciting occasion was marked at the Grand Opening event this morning, Thursday 19 May, which saw two of Canberra’s favourite and multi-award-winning authors Irma Gold (Seree’s Story) and Chris Hammer (Treasure & Dirt) join Harry Hartog founders and owners, Robert and David Berkelouw, to officially open the Tuggeranong store.

Robert and David have a strongly-held philosophy on the importance of community building through bookstores and the hard work and dedication of their booksellers, authors, and publishers. Bookshops are pivotal in creating support, diversity, knowledge, and understanding for all involved, the brothers say.

Following the opening, the store will hold a month of free Saturday Storytimes where some of Canberra’s finest children’s authors will read from their much-loved children’s books.

Held each Saturday at the beautiful new store, readings will start at 11am running from 28 May to 25 June.

First up, on Saturday 28 May at 11am, join author Susanna Crisp as she shares her gentle story, Under the Moonlight, about showing bravery in the face of your fears that is sure to be a new bedtime favourite.

Tania McCartney will be reading Plume: Global Nibbler on 4 June; Irma Gold will read Seree’s Story on 11 June; Stephanie Owen Reeder will read Ghostie on 18 June; and the series finishes on 25 June when Shelly Unwin reads There’s a Baddie Running Through this Book.
