A new-look Woolworths store has entered the Canberra market and will provide employment for 38 team members, as well as greater convenience for residents in Belconnen and surrounding suburbs.
Sized under 900sqm, Woolworths Metro Belconnen is the supermarket chain’s first Metro store to open in the ACT and is located at 1 Edmondstone Place in the High Society mixed-use development.
Smaller in size than the regular full-line Woolworths supermarkets, Metro stores are designed to meet customers’ needs for convenience with a focus on quality fresh and healthy food options, food on the go for time-pressed customers, and for local residents looking for a top-up grocery shop.
The Metro store concept has already proven popular with shoppers in NSW, Queensland and Victoria.
Woolworths Metro Belconnen store manager, Shona Stevenson, said: “We’ve focused on creating a contemporary community food store that we believe will meet the needs of local Belconnen residents.”

The new store will offer an expansive fresh food and health food section, barista-made coffee, an extended Macro range, fresh meat and bakery options, a range of ready meals, fresh on-the-go breakfast and lunch options, and fresh sandwiches and salads.
Woolworths Metro Belconnen plans to open 7am-8pm Monday-Friday and 8am-8pm Saturday and Sunday.
