Nicole Kidman wins best actress at Golden Globes

Nicole Kidman has won best actress in a motion picture drama at the Golden Globes film awards for her portrayal of TV legend Lucille Ball in Being the Ricardos.

The film, in which Kidman stars alongside Javier Bardem, follows a week of production for the American sitcom I Love Lucy.

This win marks Kidman’s fifth Globe win, having previously won for her roles in Big Little Lies (2018), The Hours (2003), Moulin Rouge! (2002), and To Die For (1996). She has been nominated for Globes a total of 17 times.

Fellow Australians Sarah Snook and Kodi Smit-McPhee also came away with awards at a diminished Golden Globes ceremony in Beverly Hills.

Snook won best supporting actress in a television series for her role in Succession and Smit-McPhee won best supporting actor in a drama film for his role in The Power of the Dog, directed by Jane Campion.

The winners at Sunday’s 79th Golden Globe Awards were announced via social media after the ceremony lost its broadcaster due to issues with its host, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
