No active COVID-19 cases in ACT for second time in eight weeks

An update to this story was issued on Monday 11 May 2020.

For the second time in eight weeks, the ACT has no active cases of COVID-19 as at midday Sunday 10 May. According to ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Kerryn Coleman, this “is thanks to the continued efforts from the community to flatten the curve and limit the spread of the virus”.

No new cases have been recorded in the past 24 hours, and 104 of the total 107 confimred cases have recovered from COVID-19 and been released from self-isolation. The ACT’s death toll from the coronavirus remains at three. The number of negative tests in the ACT is 11,630.

Dr Coleman thanked the community for their efforts to reach zero active cases for a second time, but reminded Canberrans that they need to be mindful that the pandemic is still continuing.

“We still need to play our part to prevent a new wave of COVID-19 cases in the ACT.

“If you have flu-like symptoms or believe you have symptoms, then please get tested at one of our testing facilities such as the walk-in facility at Weston Creek, or the drive-through testing at EPIC Showground.

“People must also continue to practise good hand and respiratory hygiene and maintain physical distancing requirements. Doing this is helping to protect our most vulnerable community members,” Dr Coleman said.
