Nominations close in one week for 2024 Volunteering Awards, Canberra Region

VolunteeringACT is inviting nominations for outstanding volunteers or volunteer teams for the 2024 Volunteering Awards, Canberra Region.

The Volunteering Awards, Canberra Region are the premier recognition event for volunteers in the region. This event makes stories of spirit, kindness, innovation, inclusion, and resilience visible to our whole community.

Volunteers are an essential workforce and a pillar of community wellbeing. The State of Volunteering in the ACT Report 2024 shows that 75% of ACT residents contributed over 63 million hours volunteering, generating $14.1 billion of commercial, civic, and individual benefits for Canberra and our region in 2023.

“The 2024 Volunteering Awards recognise and celebrate the diverse voices and impactful stories of the volunteering ecosystem in the Canberra Region. We are delighted to host this premier event every year for our volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations, shining a light on their continuous contributions to the fabric of our city and region,” said Jean Giese, CEO VolunteeringACT.

Any individual or team who has volunteered in the ACT or surrounding region can be nominated, including people who have been nominated in the past.

Nominations are open for seven categories: Volunteer Team of the Year Award, Volunteer Leadership Award, Inclusion Award, First Nations Volunteer of the Year Award, Senior Volunteer of the Year Award, Young Volunteer of the Year Award, and the Community Support Award.

All nominations for these categories automatically qualify for Canberra’s Choice Award and the Volunteer of the Year Award. Public votes decide the Canberra’s Choice Award winner and our judging panel selects all the other winners.

VolunteeringACT encourages you to submit nominations for volunteers, volunteer leaders, or volunteering teams or programs and share this opportunity with peers who may know strong potential nominee/s.

To nominate, visit our website, volunteeringact.org.au and complete a short nomination form. The website also has a nomination guide with details about the eligibility, selection criteria, judging process, frequently asked questions and terms and conditions.

The nominator must provide a written response (up to 300 words) to two questions. First, describe the scope of the nominee’s volunteer work. This may be against one or several volunteering programs. Second, describe how the nominee’s work has benefitted and impacted the community such as barriers reduced, people impacted, time dedicated and broader benefits.

This is an excellent opportunity for everyone to highlight the exceptional work being done under by volunteers throughout the Canberra Region and to publicly acknowledge and thank those who go above and beyond in their volunteer roles.

Together, we can shine a light on the volunteers who contribute so much to our community!
