The 2021 Indigenous Businesswoman of the Year, Melissa Lacey encourages women in business, including First Nations women, to nominate.
Ms Lacey is a proud Wiradjuri woman, whose business Point River Network, supports pathways for Indigenous people into the ICT and cybersecurity sector.
“The award shows the community that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are strong leaders who have agency over their careers and future. There are so many deadly women doing amazing things,” she says.
“My advice for Indigenous women entering business is that you deserve this as much as anybody else. Surround yourself with as many positive people as possible, mentors, colleagues, friends and family.
“Don’t be afraid to go after your ideas, learn from mistakes, go for it and don’t take no for an answer!”
This year, the ACT Government is supporting the event and sponsoring this year’s ACT Businesswoman of the Year Award.
The ACT Government Small Business Strategy 2023-2026 aims to encourage more women like Melissa Lacey to start their own business.
