NSW driver caught speeding at 196km/h in 80 zone

A 22-year-old New South Wales driver has been fined almost $2,000 and lost six demerit points after being caught speeding at 196km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Barton Highway.

About 1.40pm yesterday, Saturday 20 March, police detected a blue Ford Falcon sedan with NSW registration plates travelling east at speed on the Barton Highway near Crace. At the time of the alleged offence it was drizzling lightly.

The vehicle was travelling on a 80km/h section of the highway.

The driver from Bermagui was issued with an infringement notice for $1,841 and six demerit points for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h. 

Police are urging all drivers to stick to the road rules for everyone’s safety, and to be especially careful while driving during the current inclement weather.

Police seek information and footage following pursuit

Meanwhile, ACT Policing is seeking dash-cam footage of a vehicle involved in a pursuit through numerous Canberra suburbs on Friday morning, 19 March.

About 4.15am on Friday, police responded to an incident where a man had forced entry to a property in Casey.

It is alleged the man returned to his car before discharging a firearm.

The man had left the location in a white 2005 BMW 320i sedan registration YEC30V.

About 11.40am, police saw the vehicle travelling on Murranji Street in Hawker and a short time later observed the vehicle being driven erratically.

The driver failed to stop and continued driving through a number of southern suburbs.

Police resources were deployed to the area and a number of attempts were made to stop the vehicle including the use of stop sticks.

The man is currently avoiding police and an operation is underway to locate him.
