NSW wants you back! With travel restrictions easing in NSW from today, 1 June, the State’s smaller towns and cities are looking to tourists to help boost their economies and breathe life into their main streets after a rough couple of months.
One of these places is the nearby NSW town of Goulburn, which will be throwing open its (metaphorical) doors for visitors from today, offering up a “long awaited getaway” for travellers.
Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Bob Kirk said the reopening of facilities like the Visitor Information Centre, Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, the library and the historic waterworks will be a welcome relief after a three-month closure.
“I know how important these facilities are for the visitor economy, and am looking forward to having them open again for visitors to use,” he said.
“Strict guidelines will be in place for distancing and hygiene, and no tours or groups will be allowed just yet. We cannot reinforce strongly enough that you should not come into our facilities if you are unwell – let’s make sure we can keep them open!”
Also set to open for the first time in Goulburn is the brand-new Rocky Hill War Memorial Museum, with its opening exhibition Objects of National Significance: When War Trophies came to Goulburn. Construction on the museum began in 2019 to build the museum and renovate the original cottage.
Goulburn isn’t the only NSW town ready to welcome visitors; the Southern Highlands are calling for travellers to head there this week for the annual Pie Time festival, while the NSW ski fields are set to open from 22 June, albeit to reduced numbers, after a tough start to the year with bushfires and COVID-19.
While accommodation providers, restaurants and other attractions are looking forward to having visitors back, Visit NSW recommends calling ahead to make sure your chosen place is open and ready to welcome you.
