P-plater caught at 147km/h on Monaro Highway

A 19-year-old provisional licence holder from Banks will lose his licence for three months after speeding by more than 50km/h on the Monaro Highway on Sunday 25 June.

Police on mobile patrol observed a Mazda 3 overtaking several other vehicles on the northbound carriageway in Fyshwick. Radar captured the driver’s speed at 147km/h in the 90km/h zone.

After the driver stopped for police, he allegedly stated he was trying to ‘show off for his partner’.

The man was issued with a Traffic Infringement Notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h. He will be fined $1847 and accrue six demerit points, meaning he will lose his provisional licence for three months.
