ACT Policing is calling for witnesses of a road rage incident in Palmerston on Friday 27 November to come forward with dash cam footage and eyewitness accounts of the incident.
Two men driving a black Lexus and a red Holden were travelling southbound on Gungahlin Drive at approximately 9.55am and stopped at the intersection of Kosciuszko Avenue and The Valley Avenue.
At this point, the angry drivers engaged in a confrontation, during which it is alleged one of the men assaulted the other.
Police believe there were numerous vehicles on the road at the busy intersection and ask anyone who witnessed the confrontation to come forward.
ACT Policing is diverting considerable energy and resources toward improving safety on ACT roads, announcing today that they will target unlicensed and unregistered drivers throughout December.
Between January and October this year, ACT Policing handed out 1,056 fines to drivers of unregistered vehicles – almost twice as many as the whole of 2019 – and 1,052 fines to unlicensed drivers.
In response, a police motorcycle has been decked out with state-of-the art Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology in an Australian-first trial intended to make it much more difficult to evade detection driving an unregistered vehicle.
This announcement follows a recent crackdown on dangerous driving during rush hour, the purchase of two high-tech BMWs for the ACT Road Policing fleet, fines for excessive speeding up to double the speed limit, and the arrest of a 41-year-old man driving with a blood alcohol level over five times the legal limit.
