Patty Mills catches fire with nine threes in Nets big win

Patty Mills has produced another shooting masterclass for Brooklyn, sinking a career-high nine three-pointers in their NBA win over Josh Giddey’s Oklahoma City.

While Nets superstar Kevin Durant led all scorers with 33 points, Mills again provided the spark off the bench with 29 points in a 120-96 road win.

Mills, who was recently named the 2022 ACT Australian of the Year, was virtually unstoppable from beyond the arc – making nine-of-12 attempts – as he set a franchise record for three-pointers off the bench.

Mills produced his best scoring performance for Brooklyn since joining them after a decade with San Antonio but his fellow Australian Giddey struggled to impact the game, with the Thunder second best for most of the night.

The rookie guard finished with six points on 2-of-10 shooting and turned the ball over four times.

Oklahoma City fans booed Durant – who left the team after eight years for Golden State in 2016 – during pre-game warm-ups and whenever he touched the ball early in the game but that did little to put him off his game.

James Harden, another former Thunder star, added 16 points and 13 assists for the Nets.

For OKC, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 23 points while Lu Dort added 20 as their four-game winning streak came to an end.

In other results, Anthony Davis had 34 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Los Angeles Lakers past the San Antonio Spurs 114-106.

The Lakers improved to 3-3 since LeBron James was sidelined November 4 because of an abdominal strain.

Trae Young scored a season-best 42 points as the Atlanta Hawks snapped a six-game losing streak by beating the Milwaukee Bucks 121-110 in an Eastern Conference final rematch.

Meanwhile, the Chrlotte Hornets ended the winning streak of the Golden State Warriors at seven with a 106-102 home win and the Phoenix Suns cruised past the Houston Rockets 115-89
