New Zealand police are searching for the perpetrator of a a street-side shooting in the town of Taupiri, south of Auckland.

A person remains at large after the attack, which occurred around 9:30am on Tuesday.

St John’s ambulance have told TVNZ one person has been taken to Waikato Hospital, in nearby Hamilton, in a serious condition.

Waikato West Area Commander Will Loughrin said the shooter and victim are known to each other.

A nearby school was temporarily locked down as a precaution after the shooting.
