In a world of mass produced goods and beauty products, unique can be hard to come by. Enter personalised accessories and products! From monogramming, mixing and moulding, the world of ‘make-it-your-own’ is ever expanding.
Why customise?
Be unique! A custom or personalised product can make something feel one-of-a-kind, and it can make a great and thoughtful gift for a special occasion.
Many retailers offer complimentary personalisation monogramming, so there’s often a chance to get something that’s uniquely yours, for the same price as the original product anyway. We’ve seen a huge surge in the last few years in this space; companies have designed entire ranges or brands around the world of monogramming and personalisation, and a bunch of mainstream brands have jumped at the chance to include this service as well.
For skincare, it’s a little bit different – and more difficult to get right! There are a few retailers around Australia that offer custom products, mixed just for you based on a range of criteria such as skin type and areas of concern. This area is also growing, with a range of companies popping up in stores and online, offering skin consults, custom formulas and results (online reviews often rave about custom skincare and haircare). This method can be beneficial for people who know what they want from their skincare or makeup, or who have an aversion to particular ingredients. Of course, if you have skin concerns that might benefit from a trip to a medical professional, make sure you address those first before diving into the world of custom moisturisers and exfoliants.
As is the case with most custom or personalised products, you often aren’t able to return them if you’re not happy with them, so proceed with caution!
Clinique iD custom-blend hydrator
$60
Mecca Maxima, David Jones, Myer
Cosmetics giant Clinique has developed the Clinique iD hydrator, to moisturise and target specific concerns using just one product. Select your hydrating base; a moisturising lotion, an oil control gel or a hydrating jelly. Then, choose your ‘active cartridge concentrate’, to target irritation, pores and uneven texture, uneven skin tone, fatigue or lines and wrinkles. Insert your cartridge into the bottle of your base, and the pump will mix together 90% base and 10% concentrate each time.
