Brumbies Rugby have announced Chief Executive Officer Phil Thomson will remain as CEO of the club for at least another three years.
Thomson took over as head of the Brumbies organisation in October 2018 and has overseen a successful period for the team on the field under head coach Dan McKellar, while guiding the club through the myriad challenges of COVID-19.
While Thomson’s first involvement with the Brumbies stretches back to the club’s formation in 1996, when the former ACT Senior Representative lock took on the role as team manager, he has also served the Brumbies as a Director, and as Chairman of the Board.
He has also held high-level positions at Rugby Australia, the Contentgroup and as a Detective in the Australian Federal Police.
Thomson said he was looking forward to leading the club out of the difficult pandemic period.
“Firstly, I want to thank Matt and the Brumbies’ Board of Directors for their continued support through the challenges we have faced together in my time as CEO.”
“COVID-19 has meant we have had to focus on stabilising the club, but I’m pleased to continue in this role for at least these next three years, so that we can plot the path out of COVID and towards further stability and prosperity for the Brumbies.
“The club, its people and our community all mean a great deal to me, and everyone here at the Brumbies is ready and excited to continue working hard for the organisation.”
Brumbies Rugby Chairman, Matt Nobbs said it was important to have stability at the club in what promises to be a busy few years.
“We are very pleased Phil has agreed to continue as CEO for at least these next three years.”

“With Phil recommitting, we have a lot to be excited about at the Brumbies with Dan McKellar and a strong squad heading into the 2022 season, and Stephen Larkham in place for 2023/2024 as well as an emerging Super W program and a thriving community game.”
