Police arrest Palmerston man for drug trafficking and firearm offences

A 24-year-old Palmerston man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, Thursday 18 November, after ACT Policing officers allegedly found him in possession of methylamphetamine and prohibited firearms in Reid.

About 10.30pm yesterday, Wednesday 17 November, officers from City Station on patrol in Reid observed a white SUV drive away from them at speed. A short time later, the vehicle and the 24-year-old man were located in a nearby driveway.

Police arrested the man after checks revealed the vehicle was unregistered and had been fitted with number plates belonging to another vehicle.

Subsequent searches located a substance suspected of being methylamphetamine with an estimated street value of more than $11,000, ammunition, and two modified firearms.

The white SUV, which was later confirmed as a stolen vehicle, was seized for further investigation and searches. Police anticipate laying further charges once these searches have been conducted.

The man, who was on previously-granted bail, will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with trafficking in a controlled drug, possession of ammunition, providing false details to police, and two counts of unauthorised possession of a prohibited firearm.

Police urge anyone with information regarding the trafficking, manufacturing or dealing of illicit drugs to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
