15-year-old boy arrested after axe-wielding Gungahlin robbery

A 15-year-old boy was arrested yesterday, Wednesday 3 August, in relation to an aggravated robbery at a Gungahlin business on Tuesday afternoon and another incident at a vacant residence in Harrison.

About 4pm on Tuesday 2 August, a male about 180cm tall wearing a dark-coloured hoodie briefly entered a massage business in Anthony Rolfe Avenue.

The man left the premises before returning about 10 minutes later armed with an axe and demanding money.

He smashed the counter with the axe and stole a handbag from the counter.

While fleeing the scene on foot, the offender was pursued by a person from a neighbouring business and dropped the handbag after crossing Anthony Rolfe Avenue.

He kept a brown leather purse containing cash and cards and was last seen running towards Gungahlin Place.

Following an appeal to the public for information, ACT Policing arrested the 15-year-old boy yesterday.

The teen has been charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, two counts of property damage and theft. He is scheduled to appear in the Children’s Court today, Thursday 4 August.
