Police seeking youths linked to ACT Memorial damage

ACT Policing is appealing for public assistance to identify five youths potentially involved in vandalising the ACT Memorial on Ainslie Place, near London Circuit, last month.

On 28 December 2024, the large stone sphere at the centre of the memorial was dislodged from its housing. The following day, the sphere was removed from its position, damaging the surrounding glass panels at the base. By 30 December, the sphere had once again been dislodged and pushed several metres towards the Canberra Centre.

CCTV footage captured five boys near the memorial around 1:50pm on Saturday 28 December, before they were seen running from the area.

Police would like to speak with the boys or anyone who was near London Circuit, close to the Legislative Assembly, around 2pm on 28 December or the following two days.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting reference number 7939320. Information can be provided anonymously.
