Postie Bike Dash fundraiser to ride into Canberra

On Sunday, 120 riders embarked on the 10th Variety Postie Bike Dash, a six-day, 1,130 km journey across the NSW South Coast and Snowy Mountains, finishing in Canberra this Friday 10 November.

The Variety Postie Bike Dash, renowned for its adventurous spirit and charitable mission, goes off the beaten track, travelling through the bush and countryside, stopping at rural towns to support schools and local communities, and making a profound impact on children.

The riders stopped at Goulburn Rugby Union Club, Goulburn, on Sunday, and at Budawang School and Mogo Public School on Monday. They will visit Merimbula Public School and Nimmitabel Public School on Wednesday;  Cooma Public School and Captains Flat Public School on Thursday; and finish at  Farrer Primary School on Friday.

Throughout their journey, riders will distribute $35,000 in grants to schools and communities so they can enhance their facilities and improve educational opportunities for their students. Each Dasher must donate $2,000 to enter.

“Variety believes that all kids deserve a fair go,” the children’s charity states. “So, we support kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

“In NSW alone, there are almost 200,000 kids who are facing financial hardship or living with a disability. Variety are only able to do our important work thanks to the generosity of our incredible community, including our Dashers.”

“The Variety Postie Bike Dash isn’t just an adventure; it’s a journey of generosity and transformation,” says Tony Warner, Variety NSW/ACT CEO.

“With each stop we make along the way, our riders get to see the incredible results of their fundraising efforts.

“Our commitment to providing grants means that schools and community groups in need will have the resources to create a better learning environment and opportunities for their students.”

The 120 Postie Bikes will be at Farrer PS on Friday for a volunteer-run breakfast and to present a $4,221 grant. Emily Craggs from Farrer PS applied for a Variety community grant to assist the school with the purchase of new items for their sensory spaces, as well as storage boxes.

On hand for the presentation will be Dashers Brian and Emma, a father/daughter duo who are part of The Pirates team and have been riding in the Postie Dash together for the past four years. Emma is a part-time teacher at Farrer PS where her son also attends.

Over the past 10 years, the Variety Postie Bike Dash has collectively travelled 13,389.67 km – showcasing the enduring commitment of the more than 200 ‘Dashers’ and their CT110 postie bikes that have come along for the rides, Mr Warner says.

The Variety Postie Bike Dash is sponsored by First National Real Estate, Tamex Transport, and Australia Post.
