The ACT Parks and Conservation Service wishes to advise that a prescribed burn will be conducted today, Wednesday 9 February, at Throsby East, subject to suitable weather and fuel moisture conditions.
The 23 ha ecological burn at Throsby East is being conducted to reduce weeds and thatch, and enhance native grasslands and Golden Sun Moth habitat.
The burn will begin today and may be continued tomorrow if required.
See the location map of the burn site.
Experienced ACT Parks and Conservation fire managers will conduct and oversee the burning operation.
Every effort is made to conduct burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke, but temporary smoke cover is possible and may be visible across parts of Canberra.
ACT Parks and Conservation will be taking appropriate COVID-19 precautions, such as physical distancing and hygiene requirements.
As part of managing the prescribed burn to its conclusion, a buffer zone of up to 20 metres will be created around the complete perimeter of each prescribed burn.
