Queanbeyan indoor pool to reopen to public

The Queanbeyan indoor pool and other Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council (QPRC) run community centres and facilities are set to reopen from next Monday 22 June.

Following the easing of restrictions from the NSW Government, the pool will reopen for both lap swimming and aqua aerobic classes.

The outdoor pool facility will remain closed over winter.

Queanbeyan-Palerang Mayor Cr Tim Overall said the reopening was an important step for the community.

“The indoor pool forms an important part of our community, both from an exercise and mental wellbeing point of view,” he said.

“Obviously, the weather doesn’t allow us to open our outdoor pool at the moment, however it will be very pleasing to see patrons back in our indoor pool.”

Visitors will be required to book a one-hour lap swimming session, with only one swimmer permitted per lane.

The indoor pool facilities will be available between 5.30am and 7.30pm on weekdays, and from 10am to 5pm over the weekends.

Bookings will also be required for water aerobics classes and will only take a maximum of 20 persons.

The change rooms/toilets remain closed due to renovations and no cash payments will be accepted at the centre.

Cr Overall said he hoped the community would understand and adhere to the changes.

“To ensure we can reopen, we need to change the way we do business and I am confident that our users will be understanding of these changes,” he said.

“Some pre-planned upgrades are occurring in the indoor change rooms and toilets; however outdoor facilities remain available.”

The pool has been closed due to government requirements for COVID-19 since 23 March.

Other council-run facilities will also reopen and be available for hire, however hirers will be responsible for adhering to social distancing guidelines.

Restrictions of four square metres per person within indoor venues will remain in place.
