Queanbeyan recorded two new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, the first in Canberra’s neighbouring town in over 12 months.
It has been confirmed both cases were acquired in Canberra with the two people living in Queanbeyan but working in the ACT.
Woolworths and Amcal Pharmacy have been identified in Queanbeyan as exposure sites.
Anyone who visited those sites from 9am to 11.30am on Monday 16 August is considered a casual contact and must get tested and self isolate.
NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro encouraged people to get tested if they “have even the mildest of symptoms” in one of the testing clinics in Queanbeyan and the Monaro.
Queanbeyan and the rest of regional NSW will remain under lockdown until at least 28 August.
Statewide, NSW has recorded 642 cases and four deaths and announced their lockdown would be extended until the end of September.
The ACT announced 12 new cases on Friday 20 August, bringing the total number of active cases in the Territory to 94.
Eleven of the new cases are linked to existing cases and exposure sites, with the final case currently being interviewed.
Out of 94 total cases, six remain under investigation including the index case.
One case related to the current outbreak has been hospitalised after being confirmed as a positive case at 1am today.
Federal parliament is going ahead with a two-week sitting in Canberra starting on Monday 23 August despite the outbreak.
