Queanbeyan to reopen customer centre and library

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council (QPRC) is planning to reopen their customer centres and libraries from Monday 1 June.

To improve safety for customers and staff, the Queanbeyan customer centre will be relocated to the foyer of The Q – Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre.

Opening hours for all QPRC customer centres will be confirmed prior to 1 June.

Council Libraries in Queanbeyan and Braidwood are also due to reopen on 1 June, while Bungendore Library remains closed at this stage.

Restrictions in place at the libraries include: having only 10 people in at a time with no seating or newspapers available; computers to be pre-booked for a maximum of 30 minutes; and users having to register their name on entry to the library.

There will be one single entrance and exit point with hand sanitiser available upon entry.

In Queanbeyan, the library will open Monday-Friday between 10-11am for those who are vulnerable, before opening 11am-4pm to the wider public. Saturday open hours are 10am-1pm.

Braidwood Library will be open Thursday-Friday 11am-4pm, and Saturday 9.30am-12.30pm.

The click and collect service in Queanbeyan and Braidwood and click and deliver service in Bungendore will continue.

“We have put in place COVID-safe plans for our customer centres and libraries and we ask our community to follow the directions and distancing measures that will be in place,” Mayor Tim Overall said.

No cash payments will be accepted at any of the customer centres.

An announcement from ACT Chief Minister, Andrew Barr, what Step 2 of the National Cabinet’s COVIDSafe plan will look like in the Territory is due tomorrow, Tuesday 26 May.

ACT Health Minister, Rachel Stephen-Smith, said the ACT Government is investigating “indoor fitness, community sport, cultural institutions, community and social-based community activities and entertainment venues such as cinemas”.
