Canberra skipper Jarrod Croker has been ruled out of the club’s round 12 game against the Eels on Sunday after dislocating his shoulder at home yesterday.
Croker has endured a difficult 2022 season, with the veteran playing just one NRL game, round nine against the Bulldogs, in which he injured his shoulder saving a try in the dying minutes.
The 31-year-old was set to make his return after being named at centre in yesterday’s team announcement, but he may now face an extended stint on the sideline.
The Raiders announced that Croker will undergo scans in the coming days to determine the extent of the injury and see if surgery is required.
The co-captain has played 292 NRL games but injuries are stalling his progress toward becoming the 44th member of the league’s 300 club.
Teammate Adam Elliott admitted there was a crushing feeling among the playing group when informed of the injury.
“It was definitely sad news this morning when I found out, I was so excited just to get in here and see him,” he told reporters.
“All the boys have been keeping tabs on how close he was to coming back, I know how excited he was.
“He’s not just such a good bloke but he’s such a good player too.
“We don’t know the severity of it, but we will be getting around him and supporting him and hoping that he’s out there with us.”
Croker joins fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad on the sidelines who is expected to miss the next six weeks with a hamstring injury.
Sebastian Kris will likely slot back into the centre position against Parramatta, with Corey Harawira-Naera or Harry Rushton a chance to come onto the bench. James Schiller could also come into the side if the club wants to keep an outside back on the bench.
