Semi Valemei re-signs with the Raiders

Semi Valemei has re-signed with the Canberra Raiders for a further three years, with the young winger to stay in the lime green until at least the end of 2024.

The 20-year-old won the club’s rookie of the year award in 2020 after scoring four tries in 10 matches in his debut season, including two finals appearances.

He was left out of the side early this season but has now played four games and will line up on Saturday evening against the Gold Coast Titans. So far in 2021, Valemei has scored one try, had 12 tackle breaks and is averaging 120 run metres per game.

The Fijian winger becomes the third young outside back to re-commit to the club in the last two days after Sebastian Kris and Xavier Savage extended their deals yesterday.

Valemei said he’s enjoyed his time here since arriving from Fiji and is looking forward to continuing his development.

“I’m very happy to remain here for the next three years,” Valemei said.

“Since coming over from Fiji the Raiders have been fantastic for my development and I’m looking forward to continuing playing here and developing even further.”

Raiders CEO Don Furner said the re-signing of Valemei was another big positive for the club as they moved to retain their rising stars.

“Semi has shown really positive signs since making his NRL debut last season and he’s a player we know still has plenty of improvement and development ahead of him,” Furner said.

“It’s another show of faith in the club with another young player committing for an extended period which is really pleasing.”
