Smooth operator: breakfast in a flash

Need breakfast in a flash? We got you! Roll out of bed at 8.50am and make that 9am Zoom call with smoothie in hand.

Canberra Daily food writer, Libby Kimber, has curated three tried and tested recipes for breakfast smoothies that will help you to kickstart your day in a fresh, tasty and healthful way.

During this time of social distancing and social isolation, it’s especially important to take care of your health and wellbeing – whether you’re busy working in an essential industry, working from home or home schooling, caring for the family or caring for our community by doing the right thing and staying home as much as possible. So why not put these smoothies on your all-day breakfast menu at home? Simply get the blender out, pick your favourite fruits or greens and whip up a nourishing breakfast in a flash today.

Have your own favourite smoothie recipe? Send it to us at [email protected] and, if it passes the taste test, we’ll share it on our Facebook page.

RECIPE #1

Choc-banana

1 frozen banana

1 Tbsp cacao powder

1 Tbsp peanut butter powder (or peanut butter)

2-3 Tbsp oats

1 scoop chocolate protein powder (vanilla works, too)

1 cup water

Pop all your ingredients into the blender. Blend. Done.

Tip: If you don’t have a frozen banana on hand, just chuck some ice cubes into the blender along with the rest of the ingredients – easy! Easier than remembering to freeze a banana.

RECIPE #2

Choc-berry

1/2 cup frozen berries

1 Tbsp cacao powder

1 Tbsp almond butter (or any nut butter)

1 scoop vanilla protein powder

1 1/2 cups milk of your choice

Blend it all up and sip during your morning meeting.

RECIPE #3

Green smoothie

1 banana

Handful of spinach

¼ cup Greek yoghurt

1 tsp maca powder

1 scoop vanilla protein powder

4-5 ice cubes

1-2 cups water

Blend, blend, blend! Drink smugly in the knowledge you’re better than everyone else for starting your day with a green smoothie.
