Sock donations warm needy soles in Canberra this winter

GIVIT ACT Engagement Officer Kristi Clark with a small selection of the donated Swanky Socks that have been distributed to local charities to support vulnerable people in the Canberra region this winter.

Not-for-profit donation platform GIVIT has distributed 500 pairs of Swanky Socks to local Canberra charities in urgent need of warm clothing to support rough sleepers and vulnerable community members this winter.

One of the recipients is Early Morning Centre in Canberra City, run by Uniting Care Australia, which offers a warm meal, friendly chat and access to support services for rough sleepers across the ACT region.

GIVIT ACT Engagement Officer Kristi Clark said with sub-zero temperatures across the Capital Region, having access to warm clothing can make a world of difference to an individual’s health and wellbeing.

“Thanks to Swanky Socks, people accessing these services will also receive a beautiful, warm pair of socks which creates a sense of dignity and belonging for the recipient,” Ms Clark said.

“It’s important to remember that these are simply people who have been dealt a tough hand in life; just like everyone else, they deserve the essential items that bring us all comfort.

“It’s really heartening to see generous Aussie businesses, like Swanky Socks, supporting their community during these challenging times.”

Tom Lawrence, founder of Swanky Socks, said giving back is a fundamental pillar of the Swanky Socks brand.

“GIVIT has given us the trust needed to ensure our sock donations get to those who need them most,” said Tom.
