Thompson Bespoke Jewellers are bringing the sparkle to the NSW town of Braidwood, continuing to design and remodel special pieces for clients in Canberra and surrounds, including the stunning and rare Argyle pink diamonds.
Director Diana Thompson is the former owner of Canberra jewellery institution, Briolette, and says the Thompson Bespoke reputation is built on her expertise in designing, handmaking and remodelling beautiful pieces.
Diana says the decision to make the move to Braidwood to open Thompsons, with her son Travis and his partner Jodie, came after former Briolette clients asked her to keep making their jewellery, “because we’d always made their jewellery over the last 30 years”.
“We still have our dedicated Canberra clients, however we’ve picked up a lot of South Coast clients here as well.
“We offer the same service and quality that we’ve always offered, that hasn’t changed; they might be surprised to find the pricing can be less out here in Braidwood,” she says.
Diana is a qualified gemologist, valuer and diamond grader, and both she and Travis have won international and Australian awards for their work. She says the team take requests for special pieces, such as birthday or anniversary gifts, and relish working with their clients to design the piece of their dreams.
“Generally, they’ll leave me with their request and I’ll spend some time designing up a selection of different styles. We don’t charge for the design process,” she says.
“Around 90% of our work at the moment is handmade here.”
Diana says the highly sought-after Argyle pink diamonds make up most of their current sales; the diamond is in high demand due to the impending closure of the mine this year.
“Everybody wants a piece of Argyle history,” she says. “Those we generally make up into special pieces as well.
“Pink diamonds are the rarest and most valuable commodity on the earth, and they have been since the beginning.”
