Spring nights at the drive-in coming soon

Kicking yourself you didn’t go to a drive-in movie when they were popping up around town during COVID lockdown? Well, don’t fear because Mov’in Car is back for Canberra this spring.

The drive-in cinema style event first made its debut in the Questacon carpark during July, selling out tickets to nearly all its screenings.

Mov’in Car founder and managing director, Vincent Hernandez, said the first event’s success pushed the company to come back sooner.

“The event was really successful and well welcomed in the Canberra region,” he said.

“We had actually planned on bringing it back to Canberra next year but had received a few messages from customers asking when we were coming back and decided it would be better to bring it back sooner.”

This event will run similar to last time, with a fully licensed bar and catering delivered straight to your car window.

Although, there is a slight difference in sessions as daylight savings kicks in, with only one session per night starting from 8pm.

Mr Hernandez said the event also had a few other surprises in store.

“We will be doing an all you can eat pizza night on Tuesdays and Wednesdays because we make them fresh on site and had really good feedback about them last time,” he said.

“We are also looking at teaming up and doing some special themed nights as well.”

The pop-up drive-in will run into mid-December, with sessions already available to book from 24 September to 25 October.

There are movies to suit all ages and preferences, with titles including Dirty Dancing, Joker and Zootopia in time for the October school holidays.

Mr Hernandez’s recommendations came down to taking in one newer movie and an old classic.

“If I had to have my pick, I would probably say either Tenet, which is quite new and has been really popular, or I would have to say Casablanca – it’s amazing to watch a movie like that on the big screen.”

Tickets are available for purchase now, online.
