Stay-at-home orders in the ACT will now apply for anyone entering from South Australia from 11.59pm tonight, the ACT Government announced today in response to the COVID-19 outbreak that will see SA locked down for at least seven days.

The order will apply until at least 11.59pm on Tuesday 27 July.

News of the Victorian lockdown extension today will also see stay-at-home orders extended to 11.59pm on Tuesday 27 July for travellers from Victoria.

Non-ACT residents will require an approved exemption to enter the Territory from both states.

“Exemptions will only be granted for extraordinary circumstances, and even if an exemption is approved, you will still be required to follow the stay-at-home order in the ACT,” said ACT Health today.

“All Canberrans should minimise their interstate travel at this time and be prepared to reconsider their plans at short notice.

“Canberrans should not be travelling to any areas subject to quarantine or stay-at-home requirements.”

People in the ACT under stay-at-home orders may only leave their home or hotel room for a number of reasons, including essential work, shopping for essentials and for medical needs. Masks must been worn by people over 12-years-old when leaving the house for these reasons.

The ACT recorded no new cases of COVID-19 today.

Both Victoria and South Australia had previously shut their borders to travellers from the ACT due to the NSW outbreak, drawing the ire of the ACT Chief Minister and other figures in the Territory’s tourism and travel sectors. Western Australia also remains closed to ACT residents.
