Supermarkets introduce toilet paper limits in ACT

Woolworths has today introduced a purchase limit of two toilet paper packs per customer across stores in the ACT, both in-store and online, following the ACT Government’s announcement of a seven-day lockdown.

The lockdown starts at 5pm today, Thursday 12 August.

In a media statement, Woolworth said the purchase limit would ensure more customers have fair access to essential products.

Woolworths’ stores in the ACT are conducting additional monitoring of social distancing and will also deploy health ambassadors as part of its COVIDsafe plans.

In line with ACT Government directives, all customers and team members are expected to wear face masks in ACT Woolworths stores.

Woolworths ACT General Manager Michael Mackenzie said “We understand this is an uncertain time in the ACT, but we want to reassure customers our stores will remain open throughout the lockdown.

We have plenty of stock in our supply chain, and our team members will be hard at work making sure it flows into our store in large volumes for our customers,” Mr Mackenzie said.

As always, we encourage our customers to be mindful of others in the community and buy only what they need.

“We also ask customers to follow all social distancing and COVIDsafe measures in our store.

“Please treat our team members and each other with respect as we work through this unsettling time together,” he said.

At this stage, the lockdown will remain in place until 5pm Thursday 19 August 2021.

The ACT Government has advised that people in the ACT can only leave their home for the following essential reasons:

  • To shop for essentials like groceries and medicine and supplies that are essential for personal needs or for vulnerable people.
  • To obtain essential health care, including to undertake a COVID-19 test or receive a scheduled COVID-19 vaccination.
  • To exercise outdoors for no more than one hour per day, with one other person, or your household group.
  • To provide essential caregiving services.
  • To undertake essential work.

A definition of ‘essential work’ is available on the ACT Government’s COVID-19 website.
